Maksim Chmerkovskiy explains next week’s “Face-off” challenge and Immunity

On his blog with Entertainment Weekly, Maks talks about Amber and him being in jeopardy, his trio with Derek & Cheryl, favorite performances and what we’ll see next week.

As we know by now, due to the presidential debate, the show will last only an hour next week. The twelve couples will split into six groups of two pairs and they will face off to the same style of dance. The couple with the highest score of each group, will earn immunity and won’t get eliminated.

Wow! That means six couples will automatically be safe on Monday night!!! That’s definitely something we haven’t seen till now! Let’s see how it will work out. Below the excerpt from Maks’ blog explaining it. Be sure to check Entertainment Weekly for the whole blog.

Next week will be the presidential debates, and we will only have an hour-long show. So, the format will be different — it’s going to be a face off. They split us into six groups of two pairs, and each pair has the same style of dance. So we’ll each dance, and then we get a score, and whoever has the higher score will have immunity from elimination.

The full interview of Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke and Maksim Chmerkovskiy with Us Weekly

The three returning pros – Derek, Cheryl and Maks – did an interview with Us Weekly in the latest issue of the magazine. We know that many fans didn’t get the chance to buy the issue but, thanks to the online version of the magazine, now everyone can read it!

Be sure to go to Us Weekly and read it 😉 Below some excerpts of Derek’s answers.

On being accused for favoritism…
It was frustrating [being accused of favoritism], because it discounted my work and how much I put into teaching and choreography. I’ve been very fortunate with partners. But it’s not rigged. Production has said to me, honestly: “People are complaining, so we’re going to give you this partner, because it seems more difficult.” Then I ended up winning. Whatever somebody says about me, that’s a reflection on how they feel and how they are. I just say, Look, I’m putting in the work. I don’t need extra drama.

Us: The pro-partner relationship is intense, almost like you’re a real couple. Tell Us about that.
DH: Everyone’s excited and it just happens. But it’s not a sexual thing. It’s a closeness, a security, a trust. All the things you want in a relationship! I always joke that I’ve been married and divorced 18 times. You get so wrapped up in your partner, and then the show’s over. You’re like, “My heart’s broken!”

Us: Any other nightmare partners?
One partner had a meltdown in rehearsal that was so bad, I went over to the camera, ejected the tape and broke it. I got in serious trouble with producers. They said, “You cannot interfere,” but there was no way I was going to let a human being come off like that.

Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke & Maks Chmerkovskiy’s first audition for Dancing with the Stars

We got to see a part of Derek’s first audition tape for Dancing with the Stars few seasons back (Season 19 if I am not mistaken) on national TV, but Us Weekly posts another part of it, just a little before the premiere of Season 23. They also include videos of the first auditions of Cheryl and Maks. Click the link to watch them all. Oh boy…they were SO young!

Also, ICYMI, the three pros are on the cover of the magazine so, be sure to pick it up. It includes a great interview of them talking about the show.

And below is the full first audition of Derek for those who missed it when ABC released it! He is hilarious with the “entertaining thing”!! But he is right about it! LoL

Rob Wade talks on Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke & Maks Chmerkovskiy’s return and DWTS

In an interview with People, executive producer of Dancing with the Stars, Rob Wade talks about the three fan favorite returning pros on the show – Derek, Cheryl and Maks – and why they are excited to have them back.

Below there is an excerpt of the interview but be sure to read the whole article on People. Thanks HappyHough for the heads up!

“Maks, Cheryl and Derek are beloved by our core audience and it would be exciting to have any one of them coming back, but to have all three is like Christmas come early for a DWTS fan,” “It wasn’t easy because they have other opportunities, but they all love the show and are stoked to be coming back,” adds Wade. “I think it’s going to make for a really interesting season.”

Derek Hough, Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Cheryl Burke on the cover of Us Weekly

What a beautiful interview Us Weekly has with the three returning pros of the show; Derek, Cheryl and Maks! Love what Derek says! And…yes! Let’s hope for no extra drama during the season! Let’s all have fun and enjoy the dancing! Spread the love people! 😉 You can read all three pros’ comments on Us Weekly and…don’t forget to buy it!

Naturally, Hough, 31, is proud of his success. “I’ve been very fortunate with partners,” admits the 16-time pro, who placed second in 2014 with double amputee Amy Purdy. “But I will also say that it’s not rigged. Production has said to me, honestly, ‘People are complaining, so we’re going to give you this partner, because it seems more difficult.’ Then I ended up winning.”
He’s also not dwelling on allegations. “Whatever somebody else says about me, that’s only a reflection on how they feel and how they are,” he continues. “I just say, Look, I’m putting in the work. I don’t want to get caught up in it. I don’t need extra drama.”
