Derek Hough blogs about his season with Marilu, working on HSL and more

TVGuide just posted Derek’s last blog for this season. On his blog Derek talk about his last dance with Marilu, having Mark back again at the dwts ballroom, the upcomig Hairspray Live! and working with Julianne on the Disney Holidays event.

For the full blog check TVGuide… yes this season is over and he probably wont be back for the next season but we are more then excited about all the other great things he is working on.

I don’t want to dwell on the rehearsal package again after last week. It is what it is. I would hope that the audience and longtime fans know and understand by now that in a short package, it’s a very faint reflection of the reality of the week. Saying that though, given my schedule this season, the only thing that I think was a bummer was that we weren’t able to do anything out of studio or an environment that wasn’t a dance studio. When you do that, you’re able to see another side to people, where it’s not just you rehearsing and working. I think that in contrast to other packages, which was everyone traveling and doing things and having fun, it’s kind of a bummer. Whenever Marilu and I saw each other, the only time we had was to get the routines down and work as hard and as fast as we can.I think we were both prepared for a possible elimination. After being part of the show for so long, you get a sense of what’s going to happen based on a bunch of things. I think we were both expecting it, but also we’re very proud. Week 9 is nothing to turn your nose up at. She did incredibly well.

If you’re in L.A. this weekend, I will have two photography pieces on display at The Salon on Saturday. I’m very excited — it’s the first time I’ve ever had anything displayed. They’re signed and will be for sale. Photography’s been a hobby and passion of mine for several years, so I’m humbled to displayed alongside other great, inspiring artists.

Derek Hough: “Despite the drama, #TeamHennergy moves forward and on a positive path” [BLOG]

Lots of drama this past week with the edited package of our beloved team… 😦 Long time fans of the show know how these edits work. And long time Derek fans know pretty well that he would never behave that way towards his partners; Marilu and anyone else! I am glad that Derek points it out to his latest blog with TV Guide.

After they never showed Marilu’s injuries, something that Derek also pointed out in a previous blog, they now show this…. It’s really sad seeing this happening… Despite the whole drama, I am glad that both of them move forward on a positive path!

Except of the drama, Derek also writes about their Samba, for which Mark will be back to perform their song, and about the team duo dance (Jazz) with Terra and Sasha. Be sure to read the whole blog on TV Guide.

Needless to say, #TeamHennergy is moving forward and on a positive path, despite those few minutes that you saw on television. Last week there was a lot of uplifting energy and we connected on a really beautiful level. We had a lot of long, deep and wonderful conversations. We kept saying we’re the underdogs and we’re coming back and we’re gonna get her feet and ribs better. In earlier weeks, there was much more struggle in certain ways, but the past two weeks have been extremely cohesive and very positive. I feel like we’ve really bonded. […]

[…] Our individual dance is the samba. Mark is actually going to take a break from Jersey Boys this weekend to come out and sing during our number, which is awesome of him to do. The samba is going to be pretty straightforward. I feel like nowadays, there’s so much production going on in a routine that it’s unique to strip it down and not do the extra stuff, whereas it was the reverse back in the day. Our second dance is a team jazz with Terra and Sasha. There’s a really funny and clever thing Sasha came up with for Marilu and Terra’s solo. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but I think it’s going to be good. Its a pretty cool visual thing.

Derek Hough blogs about last week’s Charleston

In his new blog with TV Guide, Derek writes about last Monday night when he and Marilu dances the Charleston on DWTS Eras night. Marilu’s feet were killing her last week and according to Derek the dance was honestly pretty good when they rehearsed it for the first time.

This week they will dance the Argentine Tango which Marilu really excited about and so are we. Be sure to read it all on TV Guide! Another amazing blog from Derek!

Monday night wasn’t the best for us, but I’m very proud of Marilu for what she did and pushing through. They didn’t show it, but Marilu’s feet were killing her last week. It started last Thursday while we were dancing, and Marilu started mentioning that her feet were hurting. There’s a lot of hopping in the Charleston and I don’t think her feet were used to that. They got progressively worse, so much so that she could literally barely walk down the stairs on show day. She had injections and numbing cream. She tried all these different things to no avail. It was just a combination of things. Her feet hurt, her ribs hurt, she broke out into hives one day.

By the time Monday came around, she was in a lot of pain. When you watch the routine, you can really see she was really timid. That dance was honestly pretty good when we first rehearsed it. We were both really excited about it. Having to do the team dance didn’t help either, obviously, and as you saw, she fell over in that. During that move, we were supposed to come together, push off each other, separate, and I kind of guide her. I moved her a little, but if you look closely, she caught her foot and tripped over her feet. I was like, “Are you OK? Are you OK? I’m so sorry.” And she was like, “I’m landed on my butt. I’m totally fine!” That is so Marilu. She wasn’t like, “Aw, man, I’m so bummed I fell.” She was like, “I fell on my butt, I’m good.” Somebody said to me afterward, “Derek, you need to calm down. You’re literally dragging her.” I was like, “Really, guys? Really?”

Derek Hough blogs about this week’s Charleston, Team Dance, Marilu Henner and more

Another great blog on TV Guide from Derek this week. I know…many might start worrying that Marilu and Derek didn’t have a full rehearsal yet due to their busy schedule but, be positive people! I am sure they will get through it and we’ll see an amazing Charleston on Monday!

Derek also writes about the team dance, Hairspray reahearsals (starting today!) and Mark’s debut on Broadway! Be sure to read it all on TV Guide!

This week is going to be pretty fun. It’s Eras Week and we have the Charleston. I had a really busy day Wednesday. I was doing another project for something else all day, so I wasn’t able to see Marilu, but I went in last night and choreographed the routine. After I get done with Hairsprayrehearsals today, I’m going to go over and rehearse with her. So to answer the question you’re probably thinking: No, we haven’t gone through the whole routine yet! Tonight will be the first time. I think it will be fine. I’m trying to stay ahead of the game and pre-plan so that way tonight when we finally rehearse, we can go full at it. I put a little surprise in there as well. […]

[…] The concept is kind of a common futuristic story. The routine starts in a world where we’re all kind of the same, but as it progresses into our solo sections, it breaks free and showcases everyone’s personalities. It’s more of a rigid, grid-line, oppressed beginning and by the end, it’s a more expressive, individualistic oasis. I’m having flashbacks of my futuristic paso with Joanna Krupa! That was the first time “future” was introduced into the show, which is kind of hilarious when you think about it. Everyone had a past or current decade and we had the future!

Derek Hough blogs about last week’s breakthrough and upcoming dance

In his latest blog with TV Guide, Derek writes about last week’s breakthrough of Marilu and how proud and happy he is for her! His new approach worked perfectly and…I am so glad he “stood his ground” about the song! 😀

Hopefully the song drama won’t affect their performance this week… Cha cha, Salsa or Chalsa…I am sure we’ll love it! Below some excerpts of the blog but, be sure to read it all on TV Guide! Another amazing blog from Derek!

After having that breakthrough, I think it kind of takes the pressure off of us. I know it does for me personally. I feel like a broken record, but I really just wanted her to experience that joy. I think Marilu is no longer scared of disappointing me! All jokes aside, we talked about it. I said I understand and I said, “This is your experience. This is your journey. I’m here to help. I’m here to serve. This is yours. I want you to own it.” I think she gets it now and we’re good. I don’t want her to be scared of me! I am probably the least scary person in the world! […]

I’m going to try to take the same approach this week and let her feel out the dance again. But it’s a harder with the cha-cha because there’s more visible technique with the dance that you can see. This is one of the first dances where her legs will be exposed. So we’re working on refining her legs. From a technical aspect, I want her to work on the spotting, the settling of the weight on the floor, the hip action, the turns and making sure she keeps it small. But as an overall dance, I want to try to find moments where she can enjoy it and focus on the technique of the dance without over-thinking it.

Derek Hough blogs: “With Marilu it’s different than my previous partners, so I’m adjusting”

In this week’s blog with TV Guide, Derek explains how Marilu is different than his previous partners due to her amazing memory, and that he is adjusting to her in a different way, hopefully that this week they can make it happen.

He also talks about his Tuesday performance of “Kairos” and of course Sasha and Emma’s engagement! He is so sweet! 😀 As for what he says about any upcoming special performance, I sure hope we will get to see more!

Below some excerpts of the blog, be sure to check it on TV Guide!

I’m going to take a different approach this week with Marilu. I want to have the movement come from her and have it be authentic and organic from her body. I’ll just be there to guide it. […] With the Viennese waltz, we’re going to crank up the fluidity and the softness.

What I’ve learned as well is, I give her all this information and with her memory, she holds all the information, so she’s carrying all this stuff in her mind. If you think about all of it, it’s heavy. […] I want to take that load off and that weight she’s carrying. I’m going to be very minimal in the things I say this week. It’s a different strategy. I know I have a certain formula that has worked for me really well with my partners in the past. With her, it’s different, so I’m adjusting and adapting, and hopefully we can make it happen this week.

Derek Hough cleans the air about last week and writes about Marilu Henner, special performance and more

And finally, Derek’s blog for this past week and upcoming is out. And he clarifies what we all knew…that he was not upset with Marilu! I am glad he cleans the air about this.

He also writes about their Paso and that he will use something from his tour with Julianne. This is getting more and more exciting! And of course, he shares his thoughts about the special performance he is preparing for the Results and mentions his tomorrow performance at “Hollywood’s Night Under the Stars”!

Be sure to read the full blog on TV Guide as Derek writes many things, especially about Marilu and last week.

I want to clear the air about something: I know Marilu said in the clip on the results show that she thought I was upset with her, but I wasn’t. I wasn’t upset with her or about the scores. “Upset” is the wrong word. I was just bummed out because I just knew she could perform it better. Our dress rehearsal was better. I’m with her when she does it fantastically. I just want everyone to see that. I’m not disappointed in her. I’m not upset with her. I’m proud of her. I just want people to see how great she is. She loves the show so much and I want her to look her absolute best. […]

[…] I think this week will be a great one for her. It’s Cirque du Soleil Week and each couple was given a show. We have Kà and we’re doing the paso doble. She’s looking really good so far. The routine is really cool. We have four troupe members. I’m using something from my tour with Julianne. Cirque was actually one of the inspirations behind it, so when I found out we were doing Cirque, I was, “Oh, I can integrate this into it.”
I’m making it more about the visuals. It’s a story of good and evil, which is the premise of Kà. I’m excited to see what everyone else comes up with. […]

Derek Hough writes on challenging Foxtrot week, Marilu & who they are paired against for next week

The new blog of Derek with TV Guide is out and Derek – as Maks did – explains what will happen next week.

Our team is paired against Laurie and Val and they are dancing the Tango.

He writes about how challenging last week was with the “Taxi” theme song for a Foxtrot and how amazing Marilu did. Of course he is proud of her as we all are! He also talks about Jake and Ryan. Below the excerpt of the blog where he talks about next week but be sure to read all on TV Guide. Good luck to all the couples!

I do love our music this week for our tango. It’s awesome and I think it’s going to be good. Next week’s show is going to be a little crazy. Monday is a one-hour show because of the debate, so we have to try to get all the dances in in a short amount of time. It’s not exactly a dance-off, but everyone is paired off, so one person will dance and the other will go on stage and dance right after. Everyone will be scored and whoever scores highest in each pair will be immune from elimination. So, six people will be immune and six people will be up for elimination. It’s all about match-ups this week — someone who might be eliminated otherwise could be immune just because of the pairs.

We are paired opposite Laurie and Val — the leaders! So we have our work cut out for us! I don’t know how they paired everyone off. The producers just put it together. I think part of it is to have the youngest girl to go up against the eldest.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy explains next week’s “Face-off” challenge and Immunity

On his blog with Entertainment Weekly, Maks talks about Amber and him being in jeopardy, his trio with Derek & Cheryl, favorite performances and what we’ll see next week.

As we know by now, due to the presidential debate, the show will last only an hour next week. The twelve couples will split into six groups of two pairs and they will face off to the same style of dance. The couple with the highest score of each group, will earn immunity and won’t get eliminated.

Wow! That means six couples will automatically be safe on Monday night!!! That’s definitely something we haven’t seen till now! Let’s see how it will work out. Below the excerpt from Maks’ blog explaining it. Be sure to check Entertainment Weekly for the whole blog.

Next week will be the presidential debates, and we will only have an hour-long show. So, the format will be different — it’s going to be a face off. They split us into six groups of two pairs, and each pair has the same style of dance. So we’ll each dance, and then we get a score, and whoever has the higher score will have immunity from elimination.

Derek Hough writes on Monday’s protesters, Marilu Henner’s performance and Week 2 dance & song

The new blog of Derek about the premiere and upcoming week is out and of course he couldn’t not to talk about what happened during the Monday show and those Ryan protesters, and I personally couldn’t agree more with everything he says.

Talking about Week 2, he reveals that Marilu and he are dancing their Foxtrot to the theme of “Taxi”. Is anyone surprised here? 😉 And in case you missed it, they will feature some tap dancing into it! Derek says that he struggled a little bit with the music but…we all know the results when this happens to Derek… We can’t wait to see it!

Be sure to go to TV Guide to read all of his blog because it’s really a great one.

“Everyone was very shaken up about it, especially, obviously Ryan and Cheryl. I talked to Ryan after and basically said, “Forget them. They’re idiots. You did a great job.” Regardless of what you think of Ryan and his Olympics scandal, there was absolutely no reason for anyone to do have done this to him or anyone else. People have already been punished. What else do you want? I don’t really know Ryan that well. I’ve been around him a little bit here and there. He seems like a nice guy. He made a mistake. He messed up. A white lie got ahead of him. My thing is people are so quick to judge. They suddenly forget all the good things people do. You do one bad thing and suddenly it’s like nothing else you ever did matters. […]

[…] This week, we have the foxtrot and it’s going well so far. We’re dancing to the theme from Taxi. One hand, it’s awesome because it’s an iconic song and obviously the show was a huge part of Marilu’s life. But musically, it’s not the best thing to dance to for a foxtrot. I’ve struggled a little bit this week getting inspired because of that. I’ve been working with our band and everyone to see how we could tweak the song so it’d be more fitting for a foxtrot. So we’ll see how it goes!”
